COMMISSIONING OF THE NEW TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT SYSTEM ON PLOČE INTERCHANGE - KARAMATIĆI SECTION AND SETTING UP OF THE MAIN CENTRE FOR TRAFFIC CONTROL AND MANAGEMENT ON MOTORWAYS

As part of the implementation of the Crocodile2 Croatia Project, based on the Contract: "SETTING UP OF THE MAIN CENTRE FOR TRAFFIC CONTROL AND MANAGEMENT ON THE NATIONAL MOTORWAY NETWORK AND IMPLEMENTATION OF THE ITS DIRECTIVE AND DATEX II STANDARD IN FACILITIES FOR FOR REPORTING, MONITORING AND MANAGEMENT OF TRAFFIC ON NATIONAL MOTORWAYS“ (Contractor: the company BS Telecom Solutions), the company Hrvatske Autoceste d.o.o. on 9 June 2022 put into operation (the system for) management and surveillance of the Ploče-Karamatići interchange section with the new integrated traffic information system BS Husky TMS.

According to the schedule of the remaining activities, by the end of the current year, the new system will completely replace all previous traffic control and management functions in all regional centers under the authority of HAC d.o.o.

The new system brings certain upgrades and improvements compared to the current state, and design solutions are being implemented that combine the functionality of all existing and new ITS systems. Based on the above, the traffic information and remote control and monitoring system is managed through the unique interface of the monitoring application, and certain modules are additionally introduced that did not exist in the previous system operation or required certain upgrades and modernization.

Further to the design requirements, the company HAC d.o.o. as part of the implementation of the aforementioned contract, built and fully equipped a new centre within the company's office building, which will act as the Main Centre for traffic control and management on the national motorway network.

At the application level, the centre has the ability to assume a management role over all systems for lower hierarchical levels, and primarily performs the role of guiding and harmonizing traffic on the entire motorway network in the Republic of Croatia.

Through the operational work of traffic control and management based on the new system, operators in the centre have the possibility of automated procedures in case of incident situations and on open sections of the motorway, in accordance with predefined automatic algorithms and traffic control scenarios. The system additionally introduces new modules for short-term weather forecasting, SMS and e-mail alarm reporting, a module for calculating travel time and computer-aided decision-making on traffic management strategies, and for the purpose of easier monitoring of system exploitation, a module for information on the state of SW and HW is introduced.

All traffic information between the centres is exchanged via the Datex II protocol, and the design level of data exchange is realized between the regional centres for traffic control and management with the Main Centre for traffic control and management.
